When a harp sings, the world softens. And when a harpist plays, the heart remembers what love sounds like!

What inspired you to start playing the harp, and how did your musical journey begin?
I have always loved classical music since first hearing it at kindergarten so when I started to learn piano at 4 years of age, I was drawn to learning how to play it which made me love classical music even more. When I was 7, I went to a Melbourne Symphony Orchestra performance and there was one instrument that caught my eye, the harp. The harps graceful tones and beauty captivated me and I asked mum and dad, can I learn the harp? Instead of buying a harp my parents gave me a violin… bad idea, I never truly knew how to play it and it sounded horrible. When I was 9, I made a bet with my dad, if I could learn to play Somewhere Over the Rainbow on the violin he would buy me a harp, and so I did and the rest is history! I continue to play piano also and studying at the same level of my harp studies.

Can couples request specific songs?
Of course you can, I will always attempt to help you find your perfect song for your special moment in time. In some cases the song does not sound right on harp but where possible I try to arrange the music myself to make it work.

What do you love most about performing?
Performing is an incredible experience and is difficult to some up into a single favourite thing. I believe that the music is meant for the pleasure of the audience, the feeling and emotion and smiles it brings to people is the greatest part of performing. If it’s the happiness on the face of a newly wed couple or a happy crowd at a special event, it is always a pleasure to perform.

What do you plan to do in the future?
My long term goal is become a professional orchestral harpist and work with a symphony orchestra. But I can also see myself continuing to play for wedding ceremonies and other special events. I will complete my secondary education and go on to a music degree. I also plan to teach both piano and harp tuition. I have been privileged to have incredible teachers and I honour them not just with my own success but by passing the gift of music on to others enchanted by learning to make music.

What advice would you give to couples considering live harp music for their wedding?
The harp offers a truly unique experience and draws guests into an intimate atmosphere. It's almost as if the notes of the music create a magical and emotional connection between the guests and the couple who are making a commitment of love to each other on their special day. There is nothing more unique than their special love and the music resonating from the harp.
A harpist doesn’t just play a melody - they create a moment you’ll never forget.
